History
The G20, a multilateral cooperation forum consisting of 19 major countries and the European Union, represents a substantial portion of the global population, trade, and GDP. In 2022, Indonesia initiated the Ocean 20 (O20) during its G20 presidency, leveraging its history of ocean stewardship to propose concrete policy recommendations and cooperation strategies. The O20 aims to foster investment and growth in the ocean economy while simultaneously safeguarding, restoring, and regenerating it. Serving as a platform for global companies, G20 nations, and civil society, the O20 enables commitments towards a sustainable and inclusive ocean, harnessing market opportunities in the ocean economy. This initiative aligns with Indonesia's efforts to accelerate the achievement of its National Medium-Long Term Plan and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No 14 (Life Below Water) and No 17 (Partnership for The Goals). Known as the National Blue Agenda Action Partnership (NBAPP), this concrete action focuses on four pillars, they are Blue Health, Blue Food, Blue Innovation, and Blue Finance. By promoting specific action programs, such as those presented by Korea during the O20's Side Event on "Rebuilding the Blue Natural Capital & Ecosystem Services," Indonesia aims to further advance its commitment to the blue and 2030 agendas for sustainable development.
